City Beat describes it as "resigned baroque Folk/Pop determination." Country Chart says, "'Real Life' is the most commercially relevant track on the album. It has a cool vibe that is immensely popular on radio today that program managers should warmly embrace. "Real Life" deserves a wide audience and will win Susan Cowsill new fans. It has an uplifting quality that lifts the listener and builds to a rousing chorus."
Suite 101: In "Real Life," she sings, "'Cause sometimes real life can be/Much too much grown up for me." But in that song, right after those lines, she sings, "And sometimes real life can be/A beautiful place that you never ever wanna leave." Once again, she demonstrates her optimism. And it's that optimism that really makes this album special.
lyrics
Much too much time on my hands
Not enough time in the day just to be who I am
Maybe I’ll walk on the wire
Maybe I’ll swallow some fire today
Or walk in the snow with no shoes on, you know
On the coldest of cold winters’ days
‘Cause sometimes real life can be
Much too much grown up for me
And sometimes real life can be
A beautiful place that you never ever wanna leave
I think I’ll study the rain
See if it’s true what they say about Spain
And the rain on the plain
And just what kind of plain do they mean?

John Drumbo French from Captain Beefheart and The Magic Band worked with Thompson on two albums along with Fred Frith and Henry Kaiser.
Those two French, Frith, Kaiser and Thompson albums led me to this.
Also, Richard Thompson taught Hugh Cornwell (of The Stranglers) how to play the bass guitar in a band when they were both at the same school (Emil and The Detectives?).
With a career spanning 50 years and playing with two of my heroes (French and Cornwell) Thompson has produced a fascinating EP. yellowcakeuf6
