Inspired by the contrast between a gentle New Orleans Christmas snowfall and that of life-interrupted by a catastrophe. Susan and Russ wrote it within a few days of the destruction from hurricane Katrina and the levee collapses in New Orleans.
Country Chart quipped, "The final track "Crescent City Sneaux" is the album's biggest surprise. It is a reflective, quietly confident gem that ends with a bold and energetic singalong." And Blurt wrote, ""Crescent City Sneaux" provides a prayer for that city's future, complete with name dropping and a coda that shifts to a Second Line beat and includes "Who Dat" calls and responses from the band. It should be hokey, coming from a not-so-funky singer-songwriter, but Cowsill and her band have the power to their conviction and they pull it off."
lyrics
I feel like a kite without a string
Only my tail to guide me
Just paper and sticks and tattered sheets
Waiting on a friendly wind
Hold all our memories in one hand
So tight that you won’t let ‘em go
And in the other hand we pray
That the wind and the panic and the rain
Would all turn to a soft and quiet snow
A long time ago when I was young
I used to know everything
Now it’s today and I am sure
That I don’t know anything at all
Holding all our memories in one hand
So tight that you won’t let ‘em go
And in the other hand we pray
That the wind and the panic and the rain
Would all turn to a soft and quiet, gentle peaceful snow
Oh when dem Saints come marching in
I’ll be walking to New Orleans
I’ll be eating beignets at Du Monde
Singing Joni at the Carrollton Station
I’ll be hanging out in Jackson Square
Twelve o’clock I’ll meet you there
I’ll be down on Frenchman with Big Chief
Trying to find a place to eat
Tailgating at the Dome
Man I can’t wait to go home
All our precious hearts were all shattered
Scattered across the land
But I knew that I was going back
To a place where I know who I am
Holding all our memories in one hand
So tight that you wont ever ever ever let ‘em go
And in the other hand we pray
That the wind and the panic and the rain
Would all turn to a soft and quiet, gentle peaceful

It is three a.m. at the Circle Bar
Where the hell did we park that car?
Yeah and it’s six a.m. at the Christmas Lounge
Man, we got a hell of a town
A town where your Grandma tells my Grandma
While they’re sitting by a fire
And we will all go down to the Audubon Zoo
And they’ll all ask for you
They’ll all be singing
Who Dat Who Dat
Who Dat say dey gonna beat dem Saints
Who Dat Who Dat
Oh, when dem Saints come marchin’ in
Oh, when dem Saints come marchin’ in
Yeah when dem Saints come marchin’ in
Oh, when dem Saints come marchin’ in
They’ll all be singing
Who Dat Who Dat
Who Dat say dey gonna beat dem Saints
Singing Who Dat Who Dat
Ohhhhhhhhh

John Drumbo French from Captain Beefheart and The Magic Band worked with Thompson on two albums along with Fred Frith and Henry Kaiser.
Those two French, Frith, Kaiser and Thompson albums led me to this.
Also, Richard Thompson taught Hugh Cornwell (of The Stranglers) how to play the bass guitar in a band when they were both at the same school (Emil and The Detectives?).
With a career spanning 50 years and playing with two of my heroes (French and Cornwell) Thompson has produced a fascinating EP. yellowcakeuf6

1st time i heard DeathWish, i turned it off.
felt rushed, not the Isbell i've come to admire. really grab'd me when i took time to listen on the 2nd try. the writing on these songs stopped me in my tracks more than once. raw talent with just enough polish in the delivery.
thankyou Jason + 400 for another keeper swirlingmadness
